Rolling Your Feet

Foot & Ankle Insights

What are the benefits of rolling your feet? There are many! Rolling your feet can relieve pain, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve circulation. Using a ball can pinpoint areas of tension, tightness, or stress and release those areas. Some even say it can decrease your blood pressure. We like that it can relieve areas causing you pain and help with circulation.

What’s the best technique for rolling your feet? The most important thing to remember is you don’t want it to hurt. Place a ball (lacrosse ball, spiky ball, or something similar) under your foot and roll it around while applying pressure. Do not fully stand on the ball. You want to stay stable on your other foot or sit in a chair while rolling the opposing foot. Focus on what feels good and don’t roll your foot for too long or this could result in damaging ligaments and bruising. Start at the ball of your foot and roll in small circular motions, focusing on areas that feel tighter or need more attention. You can even roll the ball under your toes to gently stretch them as well. Roll the entire area of the foot and do this for a few minutes on each foot.
