Sweating is a normal process of the body that allows excess water and salt to be removed, while also keeping the skin moist in order to cool itself off. HOWEVER, if your feet are sweating to the point that it ruins your shoes, or you are noticing damp footprints when you walk, you may have a condition called plantar hyperhidrosis. This condition can be caused from a variety of things, but most commonly it is from severe anxiety, excessive stress, or obesity. Sweaty feet can be very uncomfortable and can also lead to some very unpleasant smells. There are a few things you can do to reduce how sweaty your feet are.
First, check that you are wearing the proper shoes. The material of your shoes alone can cause your feet to sweat more. Second, wash and dry your feet daily! Don’t forget to wash and dry between your toes. If new shoes aren’t doing the trick and your feet are clean but they are still sweating excessively, call your favorite Podiatrist, Dr. Christina Bui! It’s important to see a specialist for this condition so you can find out all the treatment options available to you. In the meantime, add an antifungal foot powder to your routine so no new infections pop up before you visit us. We hope to hear from you soon!
